Price-Davis, Inc. first opened its doors in the summer of 1978. On a flight back to Charlotte, NC from Pennsylvania, Floyd Price got the idea of putting fried chicken programs in convenience stores from an article he read in magazine during the flight. He was fascinated with the idea, and almost immediately he traveled to Kentucky to visit the convenience store that was featured in the article. Being the salesman that he was, he sold the idea to Mildred Davis, a church friend and co-worker at Basire Equipment Company, which manufactured and sold bakery equipment. The two became business partners on that whim of an idea and almost immediately became a Henny Penny Distributor.
Price-Davis became an overnight success. Floyd called on and sold his ideas to convenience stores located all over the Carolinas. Floyd was a visionary, having mastered the skill of selling chicken programs at ideal locations. He became so good that he was able to disclose to his customers, within one hundred dollars, how much chicken they could expect to sell in a week.
Throughout the years, the company began to expand their product base and was well on their way to providing complete equipment packages. With the introduction of CAD capabilities in 1988, Price-Davis added design services to their repertoire. By offering design, equipment packages, hot food training, mixes, oils and service, Price-Davis became a one-stop shop for c-store operators.
In 1992, Mildred Davis retired. In 1995, the present owners, Mack Buie, Mike Morgan and Mackie Hunter purchased the company from Floyd Price, who later passed away in 1996. All three, who are equal partners, have been with the company for over 20 years.
The present Principals continue to carry on a tradition of excellence and customer satisfaction that Floyd Price was well known for. Price-Davis, Inc. has been consistently ranked in Henny Penny’s list of top ten distributors while also receiving the Million Dollar Club award every year. Price-Davis, Inc. also achieved Henny Penny’s highest dollar volume distributor in 1985, 1988 and 1992.
